CONVERGENCE TABLE

This table was designed for a couple’s new kitchen space. It came to symbolize their relationship with each other and their desire to act as a central nexus in their family and friendship circles.

The table is built of three distinct pieces made of Baltic birch plywood. The legs comprise two of these pieces, each forming one half of the long axis of the table substructure. Bolted together in the middle, but still retaining their individual identities, these two pieces rely on each other in order to stand.

The table top, the central point of gathering in the kitchen, floats above the table substructure. Eschewing the traditional apron, the surface is not inherently structural in itself and depends on the leg assembly for support and stability.
